Review of The Cable Guy (1996) by Adam M — 15 Feb 2015
Steven (Matthew Broderick) attempts to acquire free cable television by bribing his deranged cable guy (Jim Carrey). This results in the obsessive technician forcing himself into Steven's life and interjecting himself into Steven's attempts to reconcile with his estranged girlfriend (Leslie Mann).
This film was released at the apex of Jim Carrey's stardom and the movie's focus is definitely on his rubbery faces, silly voices, and contorted physicality. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single joke in this movie that did anything for me.
The Cable Guy will only work if you're an overly nostalgic "90's kid" or a Jim Carrey apologist.
