Review of The Cable Guy (1996) by Harry W — 30 Jul 2012
The Cable Guy is just messed up and would have worked better if Chris Farley was in it as originally planned. Although Jim Carrey's unhinged performance is enjoyable despite the unnecessary and annoying lisp, The Cable Guy is nothing.
It's attempts to become a thriller are laughable because it has been established as a comedy through the film, and the most bizarre thing is that for some reason Ben Stiller subliminally employs the message that TV is an evil thing which is just plain restarted.
I was happy to see Matthew Broderick on the screen again because I like him, and as I said Jim Carrey was enjoyable, but the rest of the film was a black hole of twisted humor and inept storytelling.
