Review of The Cable Guy (1996) by Chris B — 15 Aug 2010
I remember The Cable Guy being a classic and one of Jim Carey's best films. Yet I was watching a Jim Carrey special which said that it was a flop and his worse movie to date. I was shocked so I went and hired it. After watching it again from an older perspective I understand now what the TV special was on about.
It is still a very funny movie and has some very memorable scenes but as a whole it isn't Carrey's best. It was a more darker comedy, and I applaud Carrey for taking that leap and for the most it worked, it just needed some more hilarious scenes and an ending that didn't remind me of King Kong while I was watching it.
The other thing I noticed watching it again was that it was directed by Ben Stiller, who also has a cameo in the film. I think it was a good directional approach by Stiller.
