Review of The Cable Guy (1996) by Kofi F — 27 Aug 2010
To summarize all the reviewers of this movie it was an insane movie which at times tried to be a cute movie on friendship, a cute movie on relationships and an insane scary movie with Jim Carey his familiar psychopathic self.
I laughed at the absurdity of the friendship and cringed at the portrayal of an insane individual that based all social interactions on television. I understood the message the family should not be substituted by television. The character was nothing groundbreaking we've seen Jim act like this in almost all of his films but the dark undertone made this movie less a comedy and more an investigation into mental retardation due to family problems in youth.
I kept watching it to see what Jim Carey would do next but I didn't care for many of the other characters. It was an OK movie and certainly watchable if only because of Jim Carey.
