Review of The Cabin in the Woods (2012) by Joey V — 15 Aug 2014

I am not the biggest fan of horror films in general but I am a huge fan of Joss Whedon and oh boy does this feel like a Joss Whedon script. With witty intelligent dialogue and that fun goofy nature that he brings to everything he touches.

He took a the slasher genre and turned it on its head making this an intelligent film worth seeing. What he does with this film makes it feel like the movie transcends the genre and becomes something more almost into black comedy territory.

I was fully entertained because of its great premise and engaging story line. The way the visual effects were done in this movie was spectacular and I thought fit the feel of the movie perfectly. The tone of this movie is very interesting and I cant exactly put my finger on it as it is very serious at times then all of a sudden very funny; that is classic Joss Whedon though and it is what makes him a creative genius.

The characters although their set up is brief and to the point I thought it was done effectively and it actually helped me grow attachment to them. The acting is also good for this type of movie as it has some high quality actors like Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Sigourney Weaver and the highly underrated Amy Acker.

The way they set up this film with the great overall story line I think can make for very interesting spin-offs and/or prequels; I feel like the possibilities are endless. I really have no qualms with this movie unless I start to nit pick so, would recommend going to see this movie as it is a breath of fresh air and something totally new from what we have seen a million times before.
