Review of The Cabin in the Woods (2012) by Hunter H — 16 Feb 2014

I don't see THAT many horror movies compared to comedies and ESPECIALLY action movies...! That being said, of the few that I've seen, THIS is my ABSOLUTE favorite horror movie BY FAR...! It's what a horror movie SHOULD be: enjoyable, INCREDIBLY fun, and occasionally humorous.

..! But the fact that this did something that made it truly stand out above the rest REALLY LOCKED it down as my favorite horror movie... and that is deconstruct the very genre of horror movies TO ITS CORE.

..!!!!! Now, I know Scream did that... but this did it better for ME because if you think about it, BOTH of them acknowledge the endless cliches of horror movies...! However, Scream outright told you what they were and then showed you how it happens and how exactly it is considered a cliche in a horror movie.

THIS movie, on the other hand, SHOWS you an example of said cliche, but it leaves you to figure out what exactly the cliche IS that they are making fun of... AND THEN figure out how and why it is considered a cliche.

..! If nothing else, THE LAST 20-30 minutes ALONE are worth it...! THAT is DEFINITELY what solidified this as my favorite horror movie, and left it set in stone...!
