Review of The Cabin in the Woods (2012) by David B — 10 Nov 2013
Why did I wait so long to watch this? That is the question I asked myself when the film ended. This film has all the great cliches from your favorite horror slashers, but with very good reason. The story manages to add a bit of originality to it and best of all THE CHARACTERS ARE RELATABLE & LIKABLE. When each character dies you do actually feel bad, but than some great new action starts up immediately after. You also spend the first part of the film wondering what one side of the coin is doing and than the near the end you discover the twist and are at the edge of your seat. This film definitely feels like a Joss Whedon film, the characters are written quite well and this shows why Joss is know for his ensemble cast choices.
The deaths, while you feel bad are still great, some can be generic, but there are few that surprise you. We do have a mix of CG & Practical blood effects. I'm not gonna go too much more into the story as I don't want to spoil the film, so I'll just say this, a group of teens heads to a cabin for a fun weekend and unleash hell on Earth, meanwhile they are not alone in that "hell".
4 out of 5 stars, so notable stars are featured here, so enjoy.
