Considering the bad reviews, a friend and I went seeing this for fun and some laughs. Somehow, we both ended up being genuinely invested, scared, and excited by this movie.
Don't get me wrong, this movie was not perfect and had a few seriously cheesy moments (and the CGI on the dog monster was distractingly poor). Some of the actors were rather stale as well. However, with an excellent and involving performance from Douglas Smith, great suspense, fun mind-screwiness, some quite scary moments, and a truly freaky myth at its core, The Bye Bye Man really surprised me.
