Review of The Butterfly Effect (2004) by Abigail C — 27 Dec 2011
With Ashton Kutcher occupying the starring role I had no intention of watching this film, but was persuaded to by a friend, and very pleasantly surprised. Kutcher delivers the performance of his life (which is to say he was slightly better than mediocre) but it was the story which really kept me gripped.
It deals with some very hard hitting issues (murder, disfigurement, child abuse, animal cruelty) and is at times quite poignant. I've seen two different endings to this film but am not sure which was the 'proper' one and which was the director's cut, one was definitely weaker than the other.
Still I would recommend dropping preconceptions and give this film a chance, you may likewise be pleasantly surprised.
