Review of The Butterfly Effect (2004) by Michael B — 29 Nov 2012
The Butterfly Effect tries hard to be dark and mysterious like Donnie Darko and almost accomplishes it but comes up a bit short. Ashton Kutcher does a decent enough job as Evan Treborn who comes to realize that he can change the past by bringing up old memories.
The problem is the Kutcher is just so recognizable as a goofball that it is hard to take him serious in a movie such as The Butterfly Effect. Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber provide a fun viewing experience but could have offered a lot more unfortunately the film becomes a bit repetitive and loses its mystique with a plot that is just a bit too simplistic.
The Butterfly Effect is a decent enough flick but not anything special.
