Review of The Butterfly Effect (2004) by Joe H — 04 Aug 2014
The ambition and ideas are here, but the story's plotholes and tonal inconsistencies weigh down what could have been a much smarter film in the hands of more talented filmmakers. The Butterfly Effect attempts to be ponderous but is only successful on a minor level, borrowing themes from much greater works that precede it (Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder") and wallowing in its own misery with the pretense of seriousness.
Ultimately the film, albeit [moderately] entertaining and well-intentioned, is a missed opportunity.
