Review of The Butterfly Effect (2004) by Pv2Rob — 06 Jan 2019
Critically speaking, this movie is highly underrated. Although traveling back in time to change contemporary [or future] circumstances has been conveyed in print and cinema many times, Butterfly Effect puts a shadowy and creative spin on this old idea.
Dark social subjects, such as child sex abuse, child bullying, pathological mental health and others are effectively put together in way that will resonate with viewers. Performances by the stars are good enough and the emotionally engaging story arc makes up for any acting shortcomings.
Similar to other user sentiments, I am surprised at how the critics almost unanimously panned this film. While it is not Oscar-worthy, this film is a solid 8 out of 10. Viewers will not regret taking two hours to watch this one.
