Review of The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006) by Liam S — 23 Jul 2009
It's a host of good-looking Canadians filming in Canada who star in this by-the-numbers remake of the first Butterfly Effect only this time it's not interesting. They bill it as a sequel but it's pretty offensive that they just reused the alternate ending from the first film, and it lacks the urgency that made that film tolerable despite Ashton Kutcher.
The main plot points are predictable and others don't make sense. There is a very flimsy attempt to explain Nick's abilities ("He gets headaches"). I had the most fun picking out the minor actors from tv shows.
Half the cast of Harper's Island is in this: the actors who played Malcom, Shea, and Richard, and I think they even used a picture of John Wakefield/Callum Kieth Rennie. JR Bourne and Andrew Airlie (the dad from Reaper) show up briefly and give the film's only really interesting performances.
The Butterfly Effect 2 sucks.
