Review of The Butler (2013) by Alex Z — 28 Feb 2014
Well made and surprisingly entertaining account of the social changes in America from the fifties to the present day. Lee Daniels directs with a skill missing from his previous films (Precious was powerful for it's subject matter and performanes but atrociously directed) managing to make the episodic structure cohere well.
It's a real pleasure to see Forest Whitaker and Cuba Gooding jr in roles and a film worthy of their talents, and Oprah proves she should act far more frequently.
