The Butler is an interesting watch for any history lover and introduces the simple story of a man who absorbed all the history during one of the most revolutionary and influential periods in any country.
There are points where this film feels like Oscar bait and the writing can be weak at times but the film remains attractive because of the performances. Forest Whitaker is great in the lead and Oprah and David Oyelowo offer some of the best acting of their career.
