Although there's moments you wish they had spent more time in a certain era and less in another, (this would have benefited from a gutsy director), this is still a fantastic, important film with moments of searing humanity featuring a cavalcade of Oscar worth performances.
The fact this didn't get nominations for Winfrey's transcendent performance, Whitakers transformative performance and the astounding makeup and costume design proves yet again how backwards the Academy is.
A fantastic, landmark picture.
