Review of The Butler (2013) by Mark V — 26 Jan 2014
It's not so much that The Butler is a great movie as it is that it's an important movie. The acting, makeup, costumes, and other production values are wonderful. But the movie makes it's mark because of its portrayal of the struggle of African-Americans to find their place and advance in a culture that held them back and discriminated against them.
I gave The Butler four stars because the story was not as compelling as other films that have dealt with similar themes. For instance, I gave The Help five stars.
