Review of The Butler (2013) by Sean P — 27 Jan 2014
A emotionally driven drama that evolves with a background of many memorable historic events and involves a dedicated man who served many people loyally and unselfishly. Whitaker shines and normally would be nominated for his work but suffered from a crowded field of worthy performances.
But, the film' success is mostly due to his performance. Some cameos were better than others and while Oprah was good, I wouldn't say she was Oscar worthy. Kravitz, Gooding Jr.,James Marsden give very fine support, Robin Williams and John Cusack were badly miscast.
Lee Daniels has proven he can tell a good story and I was moved. 01-26-2014.
