It means well, and does have a sweet payoff, but The Butler tries to focus on so many events that it at times overwhelms the movie and films contrived .david oyelowo is way to old for his part as a high school and teenage student which was very distracting.

Also, the actors playing the presidents feel like caricatures instead of being fully fleshed out. Its a well meaning film and does have a positive message to justify it, despite its obvious weaknesses.
