The Burbs is occasionally funny. I had fun, but it's definitely geared to seven year olds.
The cast is fantastic. Rick Ducommun and Tom Hanks are very likable. Bruce Dern is hilarious as the military nut. There's many good things to say about the film.
The biggest issue is the script. The Burbs could be a better film if the screenwriter took more risks. It's predictable. The scary house scenario is over-done. There's many over the top moments. The ending is anti-climatic. Carrie Fisher's worst performance. I can go on and on.
It's pretty much a perfect movie to watch on cable. Hey, its got Tom Hanks!
