Review of The 'Burbs (1989) by Shane S — 08 Nov 2010
This movie is too cool, too '80s, and too amazing to give up on. We've all had Klopeks in our life - those quirky teenage kids (Hans), the old guy (not Henry Gibson), and the smart guy who really has a thirst for blood (Haven Hamilton with whiter hair and about the same amount of paranoia).
It's actually consistently funny and runs as probably Joe Dante's greatest film, along with "Matinee". This is a more suburban and family-friendly take on most R-rated satires at the time - but you get some great jokes.
Essential cult classic. Loved it when I was a kid and I still love it now.
