Review of The 'Burbs (1989) by Shaun F — 23 Jun 2009
I knew that the 80s yet held undiscovered treasures for my eyes, which have yearned for the sweet and glorious cheese of that peerless decade! Princess Leia, Forrest Gump, "Mouth" from the Goonies, and even that weirdo eco-freak astronaut from Cool Running join others in an all-star cast that launches this quintessential comedy into the stratosphere.
Full of comic mishaps and odd situations, this exaggerated tale from America's heartland has a tightly focused plot, good character development, suspense, and even some halfway decent cinematography. It's hard - or even impossible to find an innocent, jovial, slapstick comedy like this in today's theaters.
Topped off by a score by Jerry Goldsmith, this is a classic comedy that will easily elicit howling laughter at the absurdity, the mayhem, and the prosaic drama. Amazing.
