Review of The 'Burbs (1989) by Joshua B — 03 May 2011
This movie was just painful to watch. It really fails in every regard. It almost makes a statement about the intolerance of the white middle class, but takes it back at the last minute for a schlocky shot of a trunk full of skulls and bones. I thought I might enjoy a portrayal of suburban idiocy, but then I realized I actually would rather not watch these morons.
Carrie Fisher is the one saving grace here, bringing refinement and sense to the cast of characters, but it just isn't nearly enough. Goes to show Joe Dante is far from infallible. Do yourself a favor and just watch Gremlins again.
