Review of The 'Burbs (1989) by Trevor R — 25 Jul 2011
The 'Burbs has a lot of great stuff going for it. Tom Hanks, the whole 80s vibe, suburban voyeurism, and of course if it's an 80s film it has Corey Feldman. Seriously though it's a fun movie.
The combination of comedy and scares is just about perfect. Throughout the entire film I thought I had the ending figured out, and yet the "twists" just kept on coming. I really enjoyed the cast as a whole.
From normal everyday Tom Hanks, to the eccentric friends Bruce Dern and Rick Ducommun everyone just did a great job. And Joe Dante is a pretty good director...in the 80s anyways. This is a criminally overlooked film and should definitely get watched if for nothing else than to get a few laughs and scares with friends.
