Review of The 'Burbs (1989) by Jeff B — 07 Sep 2014
A very silly, over-the-top, crazy film. It's almost like a spoof of Universal's legacy of horror while still easily placing itself into that legacy. Tom Hanks, Corey Feldman, and Bruce Dern are all great here.
It's certainly not Hanks' best work, but it's a very entertaining film helped by the fact that the creepy old house used in the film is actually the old Munster Mansion, the head of the family was the main Illinois Nazi in Blues Brothers, one of the main characters was Malachai from Children of The Corn, and the whole street the film takes place on is the suburban street on the Universal Backlot (That was also heavily used in ABC's Desperate Housewives, and Leave It To Beaver).
