Review of The Buddy Holly Story (1978) by Bellaray ? — 12 Dec 2007
An unexpected old school beauty. I crashed my mother's film watching time and decided to watch this with her, and I'm so glad I did. I didn't know anything about Buddy Holly prior to seeing this, and well.. I have a new found respect for him, his band mates, and his music.
The songs he wrote are catchy. I couldn't resist singing along to most of them, which made it even more enjoyable viewing. I couldn't believe how many songs I knew!
It was odd seeing a much younger Gary Busey playing the part of Buddy Holly, but he was so well suited to the part. All the supporting cast were great. The film has a 'B-Grade' feel to it, but that can be forgiven seeing as it was made almost thirty years ago.
This is one of the best biopics I've seen. A true insight into the life of an old school rock n roll star. It was sad though. Yet another young talent who's life was taken too early.
If you like true stories, music, or you were a fan of Buddy Holly's, check this film out! You shouldn't be disappointed. If you weren't a fan before seeing this, it's likely you will be after.
