Review of The Brown Bunny (2003) by Marrteen B — 30 May 2008
This film has been relentlessly trashed by just about every one... But I had to see it for myself... I'm glad I did. I don't understand everyone's utter hatred for this film. It's definitely not a mainstream narrative but it was a painless 92 minutes of pure mood.
.. for me at least. I don't applaud Gallo for playing up the controversial scene on a Hollywood billboard to promote the film but the scene isn't gratuitous and not what I would consider a cheap directing choice.
One thing I will say is that Gallo is just creepy and his character's ability to instantly connect with women in this film is a little unbelievable. Skeevies.
