Review of The Brown Bunny (2003) by Lee B — 02 Aug 2010
This is an odd film, to say the least. With The Brown Bunny it appears that Gallo has ignored every common law of film-making, with no conventions or cliche's featured. I've noticed several similar plot elements from Gallo's previous direction venture; Buffalo '66 and that's why, for me, it loses marks for originality.
Oh, and the infamous ending scene seems unecessary, considering that it's the main reason behind all the poor reviews recieved. My main criticism for the film is Gallo's placement of the camera which is often frustrating and distracting from the film's content itself.
On to the performances, Gallo's performance despite being am awkward one turns into a brilliant and convincing one at that. An interesting, unique character study. I think I'll need to watch this again.
