Maybe the hate for this movie stems from reading too much into it. A lot of people seem to think they're a cinema know it all but they're all too close minded to appreciate the simple slapstick/curved humor here.
Comedies are very hard to judge and even to like but when it strikes the right chords you can't deny it did it's job. Whatever it was.
