Review of The Brothers Grimm (2005) by Taylor B — 01 Aug 2010
This movie wasn't absolutely terrible, but I think it had more hype than it deserved. I mean the story was interesting about how the girls were missing, and there was an evil witch/queen and it was all like a fairytale and such and such, but there were just certain parts of the movie that didn't cut it for me and that I found ridiculous. Specifically when the horse swallowed the little girl and when that blob thing took the girl and then became the gingerbreadgirl/man? I was like Holy shit, what the hell is that thing. It was just absurd. I mean I'm all for fantasy and everything, I loved the ending and how the witch was old and looked beautiful in the mirror and everything, but those few parts ruined it for me. I know I shouldn't let them ruin it for me, but I couldn't help it, it was just a little too over the top for me. I also thought it was sad how Angelika's father had become brainwashed/poisoned as the Queen's servant, but I was also sad, because I found myself wondering after the movie, what ever happened to him, how come he didn't come out of the curse/spell like Will did? I mean I guess it's something the audience isn't supposed to focus on, but I just hoped he would come out of the spell too, but that's all right, everything was all and well in the end.
Ok movie, good if you like fairytales, but just don't have really high expectations for this movie.
