Review of The Brothers Bloom (2008) by Manuel M — 13 Mar 2010
Great confidence man tale about two brothers, played by Brody and Ruffalo. For once last big con, the mark is a beautiful, rich recluse played by Weisz. Predictably, the plan goes awry when Brody really falls for the girl, and a series of sub-cons are carried out. The twists and turns in plot are pretty inventive, and keep you wondering whether your instincts are right. What made this movie really stick out for me was its old-feel-but-modern-day style that I enjoy a lot. The cinematography was clean and the whimsical musical theme helped pull me into the personal story even more. Definitely recommended, but rewatch may not be as good (since a lot of it is plot driven). Not for kids - a horny scene.
As a side note, this movie is what I wish Wes Anderson movies would've evolved after Rushmore.
