Sophomore slump? Overreach? I dunno but the guy who made Brick fell more than a bit flat here. The script is all just a bit too much. There's too many twists and too many quirks for this to really work.
It almost calls for an instant remake, or a heavy editing into something more manageable for both makers and audiences.
