Review of The Brothers Bloom (2008) by Lucas S — 27 Jul 2010
Nothing Special, but one of the most original comedies I've seen in the last year, I didn't have high expectations on this one, but it impressed me.
The Brothers Bloom has a 40's screwball comedy style, a fresh air to the almost dead american comedy genre. The brothers(Adrien Broody and Mark Ruffalo) are two thieves that make money by fooling their victims, when they try to fool the rich and eccentric Penelope (Rachel Weisz)one of the brothers fall in love with her.
Like in every Screwball comedy, the charm lies in the performances and of course there are good jokes. What really drags the movie down is the plot with some holes in it, as the movie goes the director try make the movie a bit more serious than it should be, the ending is a bit disapointing.
Overall, the movie works in a rainy night with nothing to do, but it isn't something you'd like to watch again.
Final Rating: 6.3.
