Review of The Brothers Bloom (2008) by Stamatios M — 01 Nov 2010
Surreal tongue-in-cheek romantic comedy about a duo of conmen on their last job. And yes, you guessed correctly, the vulnerable anti-hero will fall in love with the lonely heiress. But you'll have to keep guessing whether what happens is real or part of the con, as this story moves from one beautifully shot setting to the next.
Unfortunately, the answers are usually more disappointing than surprising, so the film is at its best when it keeps its secrets. The cast is charming and weird at the same time in their pretty costumes and they do indeed feel like literary characters with their peculiar personalities.
The film takes you on a fun ride and delivers what's promised: the perfect con, so masterfully written that it becomes reality; and in the end, everyone gets what they want. Above all, the audience.
