Review of The Brood (1979) by Sandra C — 24 Oct 2008
Cronenberg's The Brood is an effectively creepy tale of psychological terror turned to physical manifestation. The horror comes out of nowhere and in surprising form, leaving the viewer always tense and anxious.
It has the feel of some of the great dramatic horror films of the 70s although not quite as memorable. I've seen several of Cronenberg's more recent films (History of Violence, Eastern Promises) and loved them, and the Brood made me want to track down more of his early work.
