Review of The Brood (1979) by Mark H — 27 Oct 2009
David Cronenberg...what more do you say? They just don't make 'em like this anymore. The seventies were the open airwaves for horror, and this is a perfect example of that. You just couldn't make this film now - not without really twisting it for said "target audience".
I thought all performances were great, though I was weirded out a few times by the film's awkward timing. I love the 70's long shot perspective, and thought the dialogue was exceptional (key to 70's film and lacking today).
This one is weird, and unlike almost all of his recent work. You just never know how angst may manifest itself. The Brood!!!!!
