Review of The Brood (1979) by Todd C — 26 Apr 2011
David Cronenberg has a very active (and disturbing) imagination as evidenced by "The Brood." His explorations into the darker side of human nature never cease to rattle my nerves, but "The Brood" does it in such a composed, atmospheric, and (dare I say) almost elegant way.
Most of the movie feels like his set-up for the shocking ending, one that is certain to take viewers by surprise. Don't underestimate what seems to be the "calm" before the storm, especially when you know it's a Cronenberg movie that you're watching.
