Review of The Brood (1979) by Richard L — 31 Dec 2012
David Cronenberg explores the terrifying notion that repressed demons of the human psyche can force their way into reality in this sadly overlooked 1979 chiller. Samantha Eggar gives a genuinely unsettling performance as a psychologically unstable bearer of disfigured, dwarfish demons, and the film's slow-burning narrative successfully conjures up an air of intrigue and unease, both of which spiral into horror and dread as The Brood approaches its disturbing climax.
Essential Cronenberg horror with bags of atmosphere.
