Review of The Broadway Melody (1929) by Darryl C — 31 Aug 2008
This is a really cool old film. It was the first all-talkie movie back in the day, so it was pretty groundbreaking for its time. Of course that does mean it has aged somewhat over time but it still has that classic appeal for me anyways.
Combining film and broadway, this movie has acting, sing, and dancing. The characters deal with the same issues as we would encounter in today's society and you can really feel yourself relate. It deals with issues like, love, family ties, and, just trying to make it in the performing "business".
It also is connected to the "Singin' in the Rain" film/musical. They both use some of the same songs and are really just classic. If you like singin' in the rain, you should definitely see this, or if your just in the mood for a classic upbeat musical that also makes you think.
