Review of The Bridges of Madison County (1995) by Grant L — 01 Jun 2010
Up very high on my Top 100 list of the best films ever made and for good reason. Clint Eastwood has made many masterpieces and this is one of them. The first time I watched the film I knew it was going to be good but after watching it I thought it was great.
Eastwood to me has been a way better Director than Actor but in this film he acctually keeps up with himself with acting and directing. And Meryl Streep gave one of her best performances of her carrer which is saying A LOT she played her character so well that if you didn't anything about Meryl Streep you would be saying "who is that?" or "she is really good in this" and among other things.
I also thought it should of been an Oscar win for her but they gave it Susan Sarandon for Dead Man Walking who was amazing in that but I would of given it to Streep instead. The story is one of the best thngs about the film with one of the best and sad love stories ever told in a film and make the book come to life on screen perfectly.
The production design and photography is masterful with some of the best set pieces i've ever seen and those kind of things mean a lot to me in a film. I hear people talk a lot about some films being "perfect" films well The Bridges Of Madison County" is very close to that but I won't say that it is because it does have its flaws.
Some people say that it moves slow at times but this film moved really fast for me but it was a little dry at times but not enough to keep it away from a 100%.
