The message from this movie is not at all that cheating on your partner is perfectly acceptable! Francesca knew what she did to her husband, was wrong and she felt bad about that, but that does not mean her feelings were wrong.
Maybe in the first time in her life she did something just for herself. And she did as men usually do: what you do not know - do not hurt you. Her husband did not hurt himself - and Francesca indulged herself.
