Review of The Bridges of Madison County (1995) by Kevin F — 11 Nov 2008
Hands down one of my favorite films ever. There are some movies that are like comfy slippers that you can slip on whenever you feel the need to curl up and unwind. This is one of those for me. Sure, the scenes with the grown-up children are schlock (and the dude who plays the son is a bad actor), and sometimes what Eastwood's character says is eye-rolling.
But this movie is a sweeping romance that really makes you want to believe that a love like that could exist. The cinematography is excellent, and really makes me miss the vistas of the Kansas I grew up with.
Meryl Streep is (as always) phenomenal as the housewife. And if you don't tear up at the end when she reaches for the truck door handle, then you're made of stone. The music is wistful and romantic .
. . *sigh*. I could watch this movie over and over again. And I do.
