Review of The Bridges of Madison County (1995) by Thomas L — 17 Feb 2009
We adults are a complex people, aren't we? No, I don't mean the characters in this film, although they are too, and wonderfully so. I mean me! There was a time when I wouldn't have abided this, but watching this last night, I found myself really enjoying it and getting sort of--here we go--teary eyed at the end.
Am I getting old? That must be it. I can't believe Clint directed this. What's more, after a while I forgot I was watching Clint and Meryl, I was so involved in their characters. The dialogue from Meryl's grown kids was cringe inducing and their arcs were a little too simple, but it's tough to adapt a novel and do justice to it.
In general the pacing was perfect.
