Review of The Bridges of Madison County (1995) by Isaac H — 26 Jul 2012
With "The Bridges of Madison County",Meryl Streep dissolves into the role of Francesa with her gestures and dialogue that seems so natural and unforced. Her selflessness and devotion to her family, and tortured sense of divided loyalites is presented so powerfully, and so plausibly, that the final scene in the car near the end tugs your emotiinal heartstrings.
Clint Eastwood provides good, solid support as he allows Meryl to become the heart of the film. The film is beautifully directed, beautifully photograhed and beautifully scored, which enhances the romantic, lush tone and mood of the film.
The flashback scenes involving the Francesca's older children was very distracting and it felt like it got in the way of the story Eastwood was trying to tell. The Francesca and Robert sections could have stand alone and require no interruption.
