Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Daniela S — 06 Apr 2008
Every bit as ambitious in scope as Laurence of Arabia.
Like in the latter, the photography here evocatively underlines the raw beauty of a harsh and remote landscape.
We feel for the hardship of the characters, masterfully portrayed by an outstanding cast.
Interesting that for a war film this has very little violence and that for a character driven film, so very few close-ups. Undoubtedly, few are those who can do it as well as David Lean.
