Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Graham L — 31 Aug 2008
A really well done film that stars the guy who play Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: A New Hope, that is Alec Guinness. The story about a Japanese prison camp during World War 2 where a group of British soldiers have surrender to them where there force to build bridge for them.
Along the way the British head officer (Alec Guinness) has a conflict with the main prisoner officer who runs the camp. Slowly they begin to work together (with great difficultly at first) to get the bridge built, but ultimately for wrong reasons when things go too far.
Of course, there is a side story that the British have other plans for that bridge, in witch they want anything but that bridge to be standing. Clearly, you see where the problem is. It has a memorable theme song that might be recognizable today.
It has fabulous acting and is well directed. Definitely, this film is a true classic.
