Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Andrea A — 03 Nov 2008
One word; EPIC! Wait ... another word; REMARKABLE! Brilliantly acted by all involved, in particular the performance by Guinness that is nothing short of legendary and for obvious good reasons. I don't think that anybody had before or ever will again deliver the line in film or in life " All work and no play .
.. " in such a deadpan manner. I honestly can't say if he's being a patronizing despot or if he's somehow seeking to connect to the men on some level. Just a really superb film. In an odd way I initially felt the ending lacked resolution but upon some reflection I find it really is quite perfect.
