Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Allan C — 24 Mar 2009
I've of course seen this before, but I had to make my wife watch it. It still holds up and is still in my top three WWII POW films, "The Great Escape" and "Stalag 17" being my other two favorites.
Alec Guinness really steals this movie as the crazy proud and principled Col. Nicholson. I remember watching this as a kid and simply enjoying it as a straight adventure story. It wasn't until I was older that I understood the delusional side of Col.
Nicholson or his realization in the end. Great movie!
