Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Jarod K — 20 Jun 2009
Before I even saw my first John Cassavetes movie, I felt like I knew who he was. After actually seeing a movie of his I knew I understood the man after just a single viewing of one of his movies. After seeing 8 ½, I felt that I understood Federico Fellini.
I have seen multiple of his movies since, and I can express fully that each film only solidifies that original feeling. I am not even sure I could point the man out in a picture or recognize either of their faces.
In fact, when I think of them the only images I see are of their filmic counterparts, Marcello Mastroianni and Ben Gazzara. I have now seen Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai, both are very good movies, and the two most well-known as directed by David Lean, and in no way do I know him.
