Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Leighton T — 28 Dec 2009
A quiet epic (because of its small scope) from David Lean with terrific work from Holden, Sessue Hayakawa, Jack Hawkins, and Alec Guinness at his absolute best. The film is two hours and forty minutes, but because of a terrific script, the pacing is perfect and the film moves along as such that is satisfactory both to a general audience and to aesthetics.
Incredible movie-making, and the climax is of pot-boiler intensity, so expertly constructed!
